There are many different brands of auto cleaners on the market; however, we rely on and recommend Pentair’s automatic swimming pool cleaners for family, friends, and our own pools.

3 Different Types of Pool Cleaners to Choose From

Penguin Pools offers 3 different categories of automatic pool cleaners, each type of cleaner has its own unique specialty for cleaning pools, depending on how type and quantity of debris.

Suction Auto Cleaners – this type of cleaner is best for a swimming that collects a lot of fine dirt; however, it is not suited for clumps of debris
Pressure Auto Cleaners – this type of cleaner is best for a pool that collects large debris (leaves, pine needles, and grass), but is not particularly good at collecting fine dirt
Robot Auto Cleaners – this type of cleaner cleans both fine dirt particles and large, clump debris. This is our recommended option for customers interested in automatic pool cleaners

How To Decide Which Auto Pool Cleaner is Right For You?

Penguin Pools will provide a recommendation with any new swimming pool construction or build, but if you already own a pool and are looking for an automatic cleaner, here are some guidelines to help you decide which category of cleaner might be right for you.

Do you have Trees in Your Backyard?

If you have trees that will drop leaves or pine needles over the course of the pool season, we recommend getting the Pentair Prowler (Robotic Auto Cleaner). The Polaris 280 requires its own pump and debris bag.

Grass and Shrubbery in Your Backyard?

If you don’t have any trees that will drop leaves or pine needles, and don’t have concrete or wood decking surrounding the swimming pool from the grass, we recommend getting the Pentair Kreepy Kruiser. Or, if you’re looking for the best of the best that can handle any type of debris, we would certainly recommend the Pentair Prowler as they are the most efficient and reliable.

Pentair Robotic Cleaners

Pentair Robotic Auto Cleaners

The Prowler is the computer-controlled, programmed cleaner that scrubs and vacuums pool’s bottom, walls and steps and provides supplemental filtration of pool water. Totally independent of the pool circulation system, Prowler provides on-demand cleaning without running pumps. It requires no installation, no booster pump, no hoses. Just plug it in and place it in the pool, it’s a totally self-contained cleaning and filtration system.

Polaris Pressure Auto Cleaners

Powered by double jets and requires a separate booster pump, the Polaris 280 is suitable for all inground pools. It sweeps, scrubs, and vacuums the bottom, walls, and steps of the pool. It also traps large debris like leaves and pebbles in its own filter bag.

Barracuda Suction Auto Cleaners

Penguin Pools used this cleaner exclusively until Pentair remodeled there version. This top-of-the-line BARACUDA cleaner will thoroughly clean your inground pool floor and walls to automatically remove dirt, debris, bugs, sand and even pebbles. Its bumper fin and anti-stick design ensure maximum coverage and increased maneuverability.
